The Best Attorneys Make You Feel Comfortable - How to Find the Right Attorney for You

Bridge Team Member

If you're trying to find a lawyer for the first time the process can seem rather daunting. Look online and you'll come across quite long list of well-educated and impressively resumed esquires. After a few hours of searching, they'll all start to look the same. So how do you decide who hire and trust?

Follow your gut.

It takes a consultation with real people to find the right attorney. Contrary to what you may or may not believe, lawyers aren't all terrifying, but how will you know that if you pick one out of the phone book (or off the internet)?

I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will not forget how you made them feel.
- Maya Angelou

There are plenty of lawyers in the Boston area who have the credentials you're looking for, but what looks perfect on paper might not be the right person for you. Set up a consultation and actually talk to whomever you are considering asking to represent you. How does she make you feel? Comfortable, at ease, and relaxed? This one might be a good match. If she comes across as impressive, but also unnerving (like she is the mafia mother of the law or something), it's probably not a good fit.

Finding a lawyer is kind of like speed-dating. If you have reservations or misgivings, keep moving. If something is just not right, keep moving. It might seem daunting to think about setting up consultations with multiple attorneys, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right? Or, it'll help you find the right person, at least. Putting in the effort will definitely get you results. When sparks fly and you just get that this is the lawyer for me feeling in the pit of your stomach, you've found the right one.

As the hiring client, the ball is in your court, so you don't have to settle for the first lawyer you come across. You have the luxury of picking who exactly can best suit your needs. Whoever you choose to represent you will become a significant part of your life for a while, so it's pretty important that you're on the same wavelength. The attorney/client exchange is a conversation between the two parties; this means that no one should be talking at the other person. Granted, you probably won't feel like you're chatting with an old friend at the bar, but talking with your lawyer should feel like a conversation with a co-worker. Angelou would agree that it's not all about where someone went to school or what he or she has done in the past; it's about how a lawyer makes you feel when you're sitting on the other side of the table, looking for someone to trust.

Here at LexSpot, we work hard to find the right lawyer for you. The attorney that you can trust to do a great job and makes you feel comfortable with you legal matter.
